Post from NewsGator.com:

Things I love about Firefox 3

I had recently installed firefox 3 and I had fallen in love with the changes it has. So in this series I will be telling what I had found about Firefox 3 and tell you how cool it is.

The new Book Marking

Bookmarking was never so easy in firefox before. Now you dont need to go and click bookmark menu item and then bookmark it but rather just hit the star button and it turns yellw telling you the page is bookmarked. And the next is edit bookmark part. If you see the image you woul;d know how cool it is. The difference is in tagging. Now you can bookmark and add tags to it. So cool.

Extension Update feature:

This feature just makes things more clear. Till now you never knew what was the change made when a firefox extension gets update but with the “Get details button” You will just know it all. Moreover Firefox alos popsup a small notification just above the Clock area telling you there is an update availble to an extension. I missed taking a screen shot as it went off very quick

The new Site Verification Feature:

Firefox finally makes itself more secure. Any site you visit , firefox 3 gathers wether its verified site or not. This doesnt mean the sites which are not verified are spammy but this is a good way to find things. Most of the blogs you will never get this thing. Any verified site just turns blue. Ah and You must have noticed the favicon is just before the address bar !!!

  • Supports Resume or Pause.
  • You can copy the link and open the folder where it is ( Not sure But I have a doubt this was there but I never noticed it )
  • Now you can SEARCH in the list of already made downloads

FlexcryptHave some files on your PC that you'd rather not have your roommate looking at? Want to send some top secret government documents over email without the risk of someone intercepting your email and reading your files? New Windows Live Writer Adds Easy Image Editing

Post from NewsGator.com:

New Windows Live Writer Adds Easy Image Editing

windows-live-writer-images

Windows Live Writer, your favorite blog editing software, just got better.

You can now crop pictures and screenshot images right inside Windows Live Writer without requiring external software. There’s a new tilt feature that lets you rotate pictures by a custom angle.

The new version also adds some new visual effects for your photos including Reflection and Rounded Corners. They are simple things but definitely help in making your blog entries more appealing.

With the new Windows Live Writer, you can also upload videos directly to MSN soapbox though we would like to see support for YouTube as well.

Available at Writer Zone. It’s a technical preview but pretty stable. I also find this release a bit faster than the previous version.

Email anything on internet with just a Click

Post from NewsGator.com:

Email anything on internet with just a Click

Confused when you find something on internet which you would like to share with others and there is no email link for it or Its too many steps ( copying the text, opening your email client, pasting ) ? Not any more, Email This is another hand on firefox extension which just does the job.

Select the text you want to send , right click and send it to most commonly email client used like Gmail, Yahoo, Google Aps and Seamonkey. It even writes the subject of the email which is same as the title of the article.

email thsi firefox extension

email gmail

Email This firefox extension is something you should install and use it. Howevere there are few drawbacks which I think should be added or fixed in the next version

  • The formating is lost.
  • There should be some “You may find this interesting ” text in the body of mail embedded automatically.
  • How about support to Email Clients like Thunderbird and Outlook.
  • Best could be if they can directly use the default email client chosen by the user.

Go-OO: Stick a fork in it

Post from NewsGator.com:

Go-OO: Stick a fork in it

screenie

Since before the dawn of time, open source projects have forked more often than Lindsay Lohan cheked into rehab. The Mozilla browser is a great example of a successful fork, it was once based on Netscape, but evolved on its own and eventually rendered classic Netscape obsolete. Many — if not most — forks disappear into obscurity. We aren’t so sure this one will go so quietly.

Go-OO is a fork of OpenOffice that has quite a few impressive features which really ought to be in official OO, but for some reason or another aren’t, such as support for OpenXML, better Microsoft Binary support, and Word Perfect Graphics support. It also boasts significantly better start times — at least on our poorly equipped test machine.

Long story short, this is a fast, lean beast of an office suite with great compatibilty with Microsoft Office. The price is right at $0.00, but as with any community project you are both welcome and encouraged to donate to the developers for their efforts.
