USB Disk Ejector

January 30, 2009 Leave a comment

A program that allows you to quickly remove USB devices in Windows. It was originally designed to remove only USB pen drives but will now eject any USB device. It can be run as a non-visual command line program or a normal gui program. Its very useful if you have a USB flash/pen drive, especially if you use a menu such as PStart or the Portable Apps launcher.

The command line options are very flexible, they can be used to:

* Eject the drive that the program is running from.
* Eject a drive by specifying a drive letter.
* Eject a drive by specifying a drive name.
* Eject a drive by specifying a partial drive name.

When run as a ‘normal’ GUI program the tools enables USB devices to be quickly ejected through a mouse click or keyboard press. It’s especially useful when dealing with multiple USB devices and for Vista users who don’t want the ‘now safe to remove this device’ dialog box to appear.

Synergy lets you share mouse and keyboard between computers

Synergy lets you share mouse and keyboard between computers

How many people have now a combination of desktop and laptop or multiple computers at home ?  A lot in simple words and this is not just because you have more members at home but Computer Savvy users have this combination to increase their productivity.

But having multiple computers brings in another problem along, it kills a lot of time when you need to work on both at the same time. Either you physically move where the computer is kept or use remote ( which is slow for sure  )

To solve this situation I would suggest one program, Synergy, which lets you share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems. You can just move your mouse to the other computer by moving to the edge of the screen , in the direction the other  system is kept.

Features of Synergy :

  • Synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together.
  • Lock all the screens when you lock the one you are using.
  • Works with Windows , MAC and Unix
  • Supports TCP / IP

The only and the obvious condition here is that all the computers should be connected over a network.

Synergy gives you

  • Freedom from moving from one computer to another.
  • Use  the remote machine resources  completely
  • And ability to control all the computers from one place.
  • Check out Synergy

Win 7 Tip: Fix That MSI Installer Bug And Get Apps Running Again [Windows 7]

Are you unable to install programs on your Windows 7 beta? You're probably a victim of this MSI installer bug, which you can actually fix by yourself, right now, without waiting for a Microsoft patch.

Here's what you do.

1. Open a Command Prompt as Administrator
2. Type reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f and press enter.

That's it. To open command prompt as an admin, you'll have to set the User Account Control slider to the lowest setting (Never notify), then reboot.

After that, your MSI applications should install like normal. Coincidentally enough, even Office updates can't install when you're hit by this bug, since they're MSI-based. [Chris123NT via ZDNet

Fwd: FW: KidRocket Protects Your Kids and Computer [Featured Windows Download]

Post from NewsGator.com:

KidRocket Protects Your Kids and Computer [Featured Windows Download]

Windows only: KidRocket is a stand-alone application designed to protect kids from the internet and your computer from your kids.

Like previously reviewed KidZui, KidRocket is a hybrid activity center and browser. KidRocket can be locked to the desktop to prevent your kids from unwittingly wrecking havoc on your computer. It includes a web browser that operates off a pre-selected white list of kid-friendly sites. In addition to the web browsing function there is a variety of activities like interactive math flash cards and a simple paint program. For older kids you can enable a basic email client and create a safe list of emails so that your budding social networking aficionado can email grandma. One of the handiest features of KidRocket is that it is entirely portable. All application settings are written to a sub-folder of the directory the file is run from. You can easily toss it on a flash drive and take it along when traveling. If the features of KidRocket seem a bit too Little Tyke'ish for an older child, make sure to check out KidZui which has a more sophisticated feature set and social networking component. KidRocket is freeware, Windows only. Thanks wickedcupofjoe!
